The pullout of Gaza is a dangerous move. Hamas not only wants Gaza and the West Bank but they plan to take Jerusalem also. Netenyahu resigned over this very issue of moving out of Gaza. His resignation letter is posted here on Hugh Hewitt's blog. He says he believes Gaza will become a training camp for terrorists from all over.
Prime Minister to the Palestinians, Ahmed Qureia...wore a T-shirt saying, "Today Gaza. Tomorrow the West Bank and Jerusalem.
I know they have negotiated those areas but what will become of Israel if so much is given away? To me Israel is the promised land of my ancestors. As a Christian it is the Holy Land of my Lord. I cherish Israel because the Lord cherishes it, and I am very broken hearted that Sharon is pulling out Israel's occupation in these areas.
The Jewish settlers in Gaza were sent there 38 years ago to occupy the land. Now Sharon feels that the Israelis are outnumbered so they it'd be better to give it up.
"We cannot hold Gaza for good," he said. "More that a million Palestinians live there, doubling their numbers every generation."
Many Jews went to Gaza to support the protest against the eviction and they are still hoping that it will be stopped somehow.
In one of the settlements, Morag, parents, with babies in their arms, sang psalms while the men tore their clothes in a sign of mourning.
Terrorism is being strengthened and fueled by these moves. The Islamic nationalist groups were considering attacks during the evictions to appear that they were leaving under miliatary pressure. That is so twisted!
Even the Pakistan Times, a paper from a Muslim country, reported that "Palestinian activists, meanwhile have been trying to claim that their relentless attacks in Gaza over the past five years drove the Israelis out."
That is just messed up. But the worse part of it all is that Sharon is evicting his own people and giving way to the terrorist groups.
Another crazy point is that this month is the month of Tammuz and the three weeks of rememberance of Tish B'av just ended on Aug. 14th. Tish B'av is a time of remberance, mourning and fasting of the many tradegies in Jewish history. And then be living through one at the same time. Many tragedies have happened during this time of year in history. It seems to be an oppressive month in many ways.
