Mele, the famous dog

My Aunty put her dog down a few weeks ago because she was so old. Mele was going deaf, blind and couldn't stand. It was really sad to see a happy old dog, with the heart of a puppy falling down and looking for you.

Mele would go with Aunty to the schools and help her with her teaching. Aunty would speak all her commands in Hawaiian to Mele and the kids would learn Hawaiian. And she'd sing songs. Well, yeah she's dog, so it was howling. She'd also smile when you told her to. Policemen thought she was going to attack but she was really smiling.

We had a memorial for her the other night and it was very strange to sit around on the floor and put my plate down. I felt like something was wrong. It was just that Mele wasn't there to check out your food. I dont remember her begging for food as much as wanting to lick you right on the mouth or anywhere in the vecinity.

Well, here is a classic picture of Mele at school. I found it on the web. My Aunty is soooooo famous she and her dog are on the internet. Awesome for a little Kepani (Japanese) lady in Waianae. She's impacted the world and her dog, too.
